April 28, 2023 – Frank Winston Crum Insurance (FWCI) is excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its founding. The brainchild of Frank Crum, Jr., FWCI was founded on April 28, 2003, initially writing workers’ compensation policies exclusively in the state of Florida. In the last 20 years, FWCI product offerings have extended into general and excess liability lines and have expanded into markets across the U.S.

A part of the FrankCrum family of companies, FWCI was founded after the FrankCrum PEO lost coverage through its carrier, CNA Insurance, which was exiting the PEO market. Seizing the opportunity, Frank Crum Jr. applied to the state of Florida to create his own insurance carrier. On April 28, 2003, Frank Winston Crum Insurance wrote its first policy in Florida.

In an ironic twist, Crum then hired Brian Bowles, a VP at CNA Insurance, to be FWCI’s first president. Bowles served until retiring, at which point Matt Crum, Frank’s son, took over as president in 2013. FWCI has experienced explosive growth with Matt at the helm, with the company expanding its product offering and market reach while raising its influential AM Best rating to a B++.

“I am thrilled with how far we’ve come as a company,” says Matthew Crum, President of FWCI. “In the 20 years since its founding, FWCI has matured past even my father’s wildest expectations, and now that we’re here, there’s still so much more room to grow. The 100+ employees of FWCI and the FrankCrum enterprise came together on April 27 to celebrate the milestone with an anniversary party.
